Robot Integration & Controls

Vision and Control Systems (VCS) is a leading full-service integrator of advanced robotic solutions optimized for your facility, workforce, and production process. With expertise in the design, installation, and programming of both industrial and collaborative robot systems, our engineers produce automation platforms that require minimal human interaction to deliver maximum efficiency and precision.

Our knowledgeable engineers bring decades of experience spanning dozens of advanced robotic applications, including:

  • Assembly
  • Machine tending
  • Material handling/material removal
  • Palletizing
  • Pick and place
  • 2D robot guidance
  • 3D bin picking
  • Robot-based quality-assurance checks

How We Work

When evaluating a new robotic workcell application, VCS works closely with you to understand the product, define process physics — such as mass, weight, and acceleration — and survey relevant upstream and downstream automation systems that will interact with the robot.

To help you determine the best answers, we help you ask the right questions, such as:

  • Is the task served better by a collaborative robot (cobot) or an industrial robot?
  • Do freedom-of-movement requirements call for a SCARA, delta, or six-axis articulated robot?
  • Does the application require a gantry robot, or a seventh-axis linear track-mounted robot automation solution?
  • Is worker safety ensured more effectively by a light curtain, safety laser scanners, barriers, or a robot cage?
  • What human–machine interfaces (HMIs) are required, and what functions should they serve?
  • Could a custom solution based on multiple motion control access actuators be the best design?

After establishing a general specification for the robot workcell, VCS engineers identify and select the most effective end-of-arm tooling (EoT) or end effectors. The options can range widely. But our engineers can help you navigate to the best solution, whether it is a commercial off-the-shelf EoT from a supplier like OnRobot or Soft Robotics, or a custom mechatronic design. We will also identify required mechanical fixturing, peripheral automation, and motion control systems.

Once your robot workcell is assembled, VCS fully tests and optimizes it with all ancillary automation systems and data interfaces to ensure that it meets all your requirements. We follow up after installation with on- and off-site technical support to ensure that you get the full value and satisfaction of choosing VCS as your robotics integrator.

Whom We Work With

VCS solutions are customer-focused and technology agnostic, though the depth of our robotic integration and controls expertise is evident in whom we work with. We are a certified integrator for industry leaders, from industrial robot bellwethers such as FANUC and Epson to cobot leaders like Universal Robots. As fully certified integrators for Cognex, Keyence, Sick, LMI, Banner, and other machine vision providers, we build and optimize vision-guided robot applications as well.

VCS engineers work with these and many other proven hardware suppliers to fully test and optimize integrated robotics systems to ensure that they perform to customer specifications. The breadth of our expertise allows us to bring the resources and know-how to meet and exceed virtually any challenge in manufacturing automation.

VCS services and support cover the U.S. East Coast and beyond, with locations based near New York City and the Southeast’s emerging automation hub in South Carolina. We welcome customers to visit our locations at any time for planning, progress updates, and training. With VCS, you’re never far from your partner in automation solutions.
